Many of our current cultural, social, and political outlets are teeming with all sorts of false or misleading information. Additionally, many of our institutions and the people who lead them seem to be actively promoting misinformation or disinformation to serve their own needs or vested interests.  We believe that misinformation or deliberately misrepresenting facts serves as a barrier to progress and delays the acceptance of new ideas and new paradigms. Furthermore misinformation, which includes both unintentionally false information (misinformation) and intentionally misleading information (disinformation), poses significant challenges to individual well-being, public health, and even to sustainability of life, human or otherwise, on this planet.

These trends seem especially prevalent in many of our social media outlets, on the Internet and in much of the news media where promoting a particular ideology or political point of view seems more important than promoting unbiased evidence-based or factual information. Not only does misinformation abound, but even outright censorship and trolling are often experienced on some of these sites.

 
For these reasons and several others, we have chosen to use Bluesky as our preferred social media outlet to allow our website visitors to find other like-minded individuals and to communicate with them without worrying as much about censorship, being exposed to blatant misinformation or disinformation algorithms, privacy violations, politization, or suffering the abuses or trauma associated with trolling that often occurs on some of the other sites.
